Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Services

Speech-Language Therapy

At our clinic, we use a strengths-based, neuro-affirming approach to therapy for autistic individuals. We recognize an individual’s strengths and build on their areas of growth throughout our therapy sessions. We appreciate the way all individuals interpret words, ideas and their environment. We focus on a wide variety of skills depending on your needs, from play to communication to developing life skills.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) includes ways of communicating beyond just verbal speech. AAC can range from low-tech to high-tech, or not involve technology at all, such as gestures, facial expressions or writing. Other forms of AAC can include devices (such as an iPad) installed with a voice output. Because there are so many factors and features that go into choosing and using an AAC device, it’s important to have a comprehensive evaluation. At our clinic, we offer AAC evaluations and intervention.

You can also visit the Illinois Assistive Technology Program to learn more about the different types of devices and how to trial one.

Advocacy and Ignite

We strive to empower autistic individuals and foster self-advocacy. For school-age clients, we offer RAMP’s Ignite – Student Empowerment and Transition program. This program allows children to engage in self-exploration and build skills necessary to become self-advocates across a variety of settings—including their Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and transition meetings.

Students (ages 10 to 16) with a disability diagnosis who are interested in self-empowerment and advocacy are invited to join the Ignite program. Our objectives are to empower students to advocate for themselves and help them begin or transition into high school with the tools they need to be successful.
