Couple and Family Therapy Clinic Services and Fees

We work with individuals, couples and families who are affiliated with NIU as well as those who live in the surrounding communities.

Fees for services are determined on a sliding fee scale. We will not turn you away due to inability to pay. Your fee will be determined at your first session. Please bring a Tax Form 1040, pay stub or other financial documentation with you. We ask that payments be made at the end of each session using either cash or check.

The Couple and Family Therapy Clinic provides a wide range of mental health services.

We offer individual therapy to people struggling with issues such as:

  • Depression/anxiety
  • Low self-esteem
  • Adjustment to life changes
  • Anger management
  • Grief/loss
  • Physical/emotional abuse
  • Work-related stress
  • Financial stress
  • Eating concerns
  • Substance abuse
  • Family issues
  • Coping with divorce or separation

Our therapists have specialized training to help couples improve their relationship. We work with couples of all sexual orientations including those who are dating, cohabitating and/or married.

Couples often seek therapy to:

  • Recover from infidelity

Family therapy improves family relationships that enables family members to work together to resolve individual and family issues. In addition to parents and children, family sessions may include grandparents, siblings or in-laws. Common issues for family therapy include:

  • Behavioral and emotional issues with children
  • Adjustment to separation or divorce

Our therapists employ individual, family and play therapy to help children and adolescents with:

  • Recovery from abuse

The clinic offers pre-marital counseling for all couples who are engaged, cohabitating or contemplating marriage. Our therapists are trained in PREPARE, a nationally renowned program designed to help couples strengthen their relationship in areas such as:

  • Communication
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Assertiveness
  • Financial Management
  • Sexual Relationship and Intimacy
  • Parenting Styles
  • Family of Origin Issues
  • Spirituality
  • Stress Management

Nearly three million couples have taken PREPARE and research indicates that pre-marital counseling reduces the rate of divorce by up to 50%.

Our therapists also are trained in the use of ENRICH for married and long-term committed couples who would like to improve the quality of their relationship.

The fee for pre-parital counseling and marital enrichment sessions is determined by our sliding scales. The cost for completing the assessment instrument is $35.
