Child Development and Family Center Employment and Volunteer Opportunities
Full-time Employment
Interested in joining our team? Information about full-time openings will be posted on the NIU employment portal as they become available.
Part-time Employment for Student Workers and Volunteers
We also employ NIU students part time and welcome volunteers in our classrooms. Our student workers supervise children, provide support to teachers and help maintain classroom routines. They benefit from ongoing training, guidance from skilled teachers, networking opportunities, and access to children and families, which can be helpful for completing coursework. They generally work 10 to 20 hours per week, and their work schedules are developed around their class schedules.
Apply to Work or Volunteer
If you’re an NIU student interested in working or volunteering, please complete anapplication. The best time to apply for a certain semester is about a month before that semester begins.
When selecting students to interview for employment, we prioritize students who are child development and early childhood majors. Our other considerations include whether you have work-study funds, the hours you have available to work and your experience caring for young children.
