Wenner Nursing Scholarship

The Wenner Nursing Scholarship was established in 2020 by Alexandar Wenner in memory of his mother, Gisella Wenner, a nurse who immigrated from Germany. It was his intent to encourage and support students pursuing a career in this critical field, as his mother had. The scholarship aims to provide competitive needs-based financial awards for nursing students attending Northern Illinois University.

The Wenner Nursing Scholarship provides from $5,000 to $10,000 per year based on full-time or part-time status to awardees in the form of two-semester disbursements directly to their NIU bursar’s account. The number of awards available each year will vary. Awardees may re-apply for subsequent award years.

The Wenner Nursing Expendable Scholarship eligibility requirements are listed below:

  • A current or accepted student to graduate nursing program at NIU
  • Enrolled in at least five semester hours while receiving award benefits
  • A minimum GPA of 3.2 for a baccalaureate degree for program applicants and 3.5 for enrolled NIU nursing graduate students.
  • Have a demonstrated financial need. Students will provide a narrative statement of financial need or extenuating circumstances.
