In 2026, construction will begin on NIU’s Baustert Bahwell Health Technology Center, uniting health-related programs and experts across the university.

Here's what you can do with a nursing degree from NIU.
The School of Nursing provides you with the skills you'll need to become a leader in delivering patient care in all settings. Through our B.S. in Nursing and RN-B.S. in Nursing programs, you'll receive training in the physical and social sciences integral to becoming a successful nurse. And, you'll be ready to pursue graduate degrees. We offer those too, through the M.S. in Nursing and D.N.P. Doctor of Nursing Practice programs.
The baccalaureate degree programs in nursing, master’s degree programs in nursing and the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at Northern Illinois University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (https://www.ccneaccreditation.org).
Did You Know?
Beginning in the fall 2026 term, the NIU Nursing B.S. degree program will be a four-semester sequence of courses. Students are typically enrolled in 15 credit hours per term.

Notice: Upcoming Northern Illinois University School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice Program CCNE Accreditation Review and Third Party Comments Request
Northern Illinois University School of Nursing will host an accreditation review for their Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) on Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, 2026.
In accordance with CCNE accreditation procedures, the School of Nursing is providing notice and inviting interested parties to submit written third-party comments regarding the program's qualifications for accreditation.
Comments are invited from students, faculty, alumni, preceptors, employers, and other constituents. Written and signed comments must relate to the CCNE standards for accreditation.
