Bread for the World is a nationwide movement that seeks justice for the world's hungry people through activism, volunteerism and networking.
Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Peer Advocates
Family and Consumer Science peer advocates are employed by FACS for a variety of tasks including supporting FACS events, peer-mentoring and tutoring, FACS marketing and admission outreach and providing input of FACS programs to FACS faculty.
Fashion Industries Organization (FIO)
The FIO is the student-run group for the Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising program however, students from any major are welcome to join. This active organization plans field trips and fundraising events, hosts guest speakers from industry, dresses windows in Wirtz Hall and produces the annual Kohl’s spring fashion show.
NIU Student Council of Family Relations (NIUSCFR)
The NIUSCFR is a student affiliate chapter of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). The Illinois Council on Family Relations (ILCFR) is the state-level NCFR organization in Illinois. While students from all majors are welcome to become involved in the organization, the NIUSCFR is affiliated with the School of Family and Consumer Sciences’ Human Development and Family Sciences program. Students in NIUSCFR facilitate program-related events focusing on research, family issues and policy concerns. Members also attend the national and state conferences.
Student Hospitality Association (SHA)
SHA is a self-funded, self-regulated organization recognized under the NIU Student Association. Our club is open to all NIU students, and operates as a professional growth and networking tool for anyone interested in the hospitality industry. SHA is an organization where members not only come to learn about the skills and knowledge of the hospitality industry, but also to make friends and enjoy their time at NIU. SHA organizes members to attend the National Restaurant Show in Chicago and another hospitality events outside of Illinois.
National Honor Society
Kappa Omicron Nu
Kappa Omicron Nu (KON) is the national honor society for students who are majoring in the human sciences field. Their mission is to empower leaders to use an integrative approach to enhance others’ quality of living through excellence in scholarship, leadership and research.
