Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy Program Documents

The Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy (SMFT) program at NIU meets the educational requirements to become a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Illinois. Students who want to obtain a license outside of Illinois should read the state by state requirement document (XLSX) and plan a meeting with their advisor to discuss their plan of action.

The program manual (DOCX) provides an overview of the Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy (SMFT) program which includes, but is not limited to, information about faculty, educational guidelines, clinical training guidelines, policies and procedures.

The student handbook (DOCX) provides specific information for each cohort concerning educational training, clinical training, policies, procedures, forms and programs of study and is updated each year.
