Emphasis in Family Relations, Prevention and Wellness

Family Relations, Prevention and Wellness (FRPW) is one of the emphases for the major in Human Development and Family Sciences. This emphasis is recommended as preparation for advanced degrees in related fields focused on research rather than service. Choosing it can help enhance your career if you have prior work experience with individuals and/or families. It can also benefit you if you plan to pursue a career in secondary or higher education in human development and family sciences or a related field.
In addition, courses in this emphasis meet many of the requirements for a minor in financial counseling, which can help prepare you to assist individuals, couples and families with financial issues.
Accelerated Graduate Study
If you choose the FRPW emphasis, you can prepare for a career in family law and child advocacy with the accelerated (3+3) law degree program. Offered in partnership with the College of Law, this program enables you to graduate with B.S. and J.D. degrees.
Depending on your progress toward your degree, you also have the option of pursuing the accelerated (3+2) master’s degree program. This program allows you to complete your bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Applied Human Development and Family Sciences in only five years.
