Welcome from Thomas Pavkov, Chair of the School of Family and Consumer Sciences
I’m happy to welcome you to NIU’s School of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS). Students participating in FACS programs have opportunities to learn and practice strategies to support healthy growth and development of families and individuals. Students gain experience through both practicum and internships opportunities designed to prepare students for employment in their chosen professions.
The School of Family and Consumer Sciences is the academic home to a diverse population of over 400 undergraduate and graduate students. Our successful programs fall into three academic areas: Fashion Merchandising; Gerontology/Leadership in Aging Services; and Human Development and Family Sciences.
We’re proud to offer students the opportunity to engage in real-world experience through on-campus facilities that support our mission. These include the Couple and Family Therapy Clinic and the award-winning Child Development and Family Center. Both facilities serve the NIU campus, and the DeKalb and Sycamore communities. FACS has also partnered with the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services to establish the Child Protection Training Academy on the NIU campus. Human Development and Family Science is also a full partner in the State of Illinois Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity Program (ECACE) providing scholarships for the next generation of early childhood professionals in Illinois.
I invite you to explore our programs here, or better yet, come out to see us. Contact the FACS office at 815-753-1543 if you have questions or would like to arrange a visit. You may also contact me via email at email@example.com. The FACS faculty and staff are here to facilitate your student career success through quality educational programs and exciting career-related opportunities.
