Preschool For All Expansion (PFAE)

What is the PFAE program at NIU?

  • Free early learning experience funded through the Illinois State Board of Education
  • The program provides a full-day early learning experience for eligible children five-days per week.
  • The Child Development and Family Center (CDFC) at NIU was funded to support 40 children in the program.
  • The PFAE Program focuses on a child’s social, emotional and academic development in preparation for Kindergarten.
  • The PFAE program family coordinator also works with families to establish community connections with dentists, doctors and community-based providers.
  • The PFAE program family coordinator can also facilitate connections to existing university resources for parents of children enrolled in the program (i.e. connections with academic programs, clinics).

The NIU Preschool For All Expansion program is open to both DeKalb residents and NIU student families. The program hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. To enroll, children must be age four by September 1 of the program year.
