This memorial scholarship has been established through the efforts of the friends and family of Sarah S. Fuller according to her expressed wishes. Its purpose is to establish and maintain a lasting tribute to Dr. Fuller, a member of the faculty of the School of Nursing at Northern Illinois University until her untimely death on July 1, 1980. Dr. Fuller was deeply respected by her colleagues, students, and university associates and this fund is established to create a meaningful and permanent memorial to her many contributions in the field of nursing at Northern Illinois University (NIU).
An award(s) shall be made annually from income generated from the principal balance of the Sarah S. Fuller Memorial Scholar ship Fund. The income shall be used to help defray expenses incurred by graduate or undergraduate students in the School of Nursing at NIU who are conducting clinical research projects under the mentorship of a School of Nursing faculty member. In addition, faculty who are conducting research with students will be considered for this fund. The award(s) shall be made on the basis of a recommendation from the chair of the School of Nursing or a scholarship committee within the School of Nursing. Any award made will be coordinated with the Office of Student Financial Aids and the NIU Foundation. If for any reason, the award is not made, the income shall be returned and added to the principal amount.
In the event the Board of Directors of the NIU Foundation, in their sole discretion, determines that the use of the income from this fund for the above-stated purpose is no longer appropriate or possible of performance, of for other good and lawful reasons, said Board of Directors shall use the income from this fund for such purposes as said Board determines will best promote and support scholarship and education in the filed of nursing through Northern Illinois University.
This fund shall be invested in accordance with the Constitution and By-laws of the Northern Illinois University.
