The mission of Hospitality Administration Emphasis is to engage students in developing the foundational knowledge, demonstrated skills and professional attitudes required for contemporary and future practice or advanced study in the fields of hospitality.
The Hospitality Administration Emphasis provides basic preparation for fulfillment of the baccalaureate requirements for careers in hospitality administration. Students study all aspects of hospitality industry, such as hotel operation, foodservice management, and meeting and event management. Studies in the emphasis include courses in general education, business knowledge and hospitality management.
The Emphasis provides students with extensive management skills and practical work experiences. Students operate a dining facility, Ellington's to gain hands-on expereiences in foodservice management. Students also have the opportunity to operate a catering facility. Chandelier Catering and gain hotel operation experience in Holmes Student Center Hotel. In addition, all students are required to participate in industry-related Internships.
The Hospitality Administration Emphasis also has an active Advisory Committee consisting of industry leaders who provide advice on curriculum and development matters. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in the Mentor Program which is for the students to gain knowledge about the industry and develop their career paths by learning from industry mentors.
The Emphasis requires 76-79 semester hours including courses in foodservice, lodging operations, meeting and trade show management as well as services marketing, human resources management, and strategic management in the hospitality industry.
