Counseling Staff - NIU - The Couple and Family Center

The Couple and Family Therapy Clinic at NIU

Counseling Staff

The primary therapists are graduate student therapists in their second year of study and training in the specialization of Marriage and Family Therapy (SMFT) in the School of Family, Consumer, and Nutrition Sciences, which follows the rigorous training standards set forth by our COAMFTE accreditation. The graduate student therapists receive ongoing supervision and work closely with the clinical faculty in the SMFT program in order to provide the highest quality of care for the clients they serve. Our graduate students learn to integrate theory and research while developing marriage and family therapy clinical skills.

The SMFT clinical faculty members are individually licensed as a Marriage and Family therapist in the state of Illinois in addition to being Approved Supervisors of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The SMFT clinical faculty also provides clinical services at the Couple and Family Therapy Clinic.
