Our faculty researchers work to solve real life health problems and share this information with the citizens of our region and our students in the classroom. Many projects directly impact the health of people in our region, but many also improve quality of care on the national and international level.

Current projects:

  • Helping patients regain use of paralyzed limbs after stroke
  • Designing and implementing better drug treatment programs
  • Assessing and improving the quality of care given to patients with Alzheimers Disease using Dementia Care Mapping
  • Rehabilitating victims of land mine explosions
  • Preventing exposure to radon gas commonly found in our homes
  • Improving medical education internationally
  • Assessing the impact of exercise on the cholesterol levels of women
  • Implementing programs to prevent falls among the elderly
  • Cataloging donors with rare blood types to assist in organ donation
  • Working to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa
  • Preventing and managing obesity
  • Providing expertise to agencies assisting underserved patients
  • Identifying and explaining the distribution of environmentally related cancers
  • Teaching young girls to understand the relationship between culture and body image
