Audiology
Diagnostic Testing:
Diagnostic testing is available for individuals across the lifespan. Students are involved in service delivery each semester in the Speech-Language-Hearing-Clinic on campus providing both standard and advanced testing procedures. Additional experiences at off-campus placements are also provided throughout the program of study.
Pediatric and adult testing includes:
- Comprehensive hearing assessment for adults
- Comprehensive hearing assessment for children including play conditioning audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA), tangible reinforcement operant conditioning audiometry (TROCA)
- Speech audiometry procedures including speech recognition threshold, speech detection threshold, and speech recognition testing in quiet and in noise
- Immittance testing including high frequency tympanometry for infants
- Transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAE)
- Distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE)
- Electrophysiological assessment
- Assessment for auditory processing disorders
- Newborn hearing screening
Hearing Treatment:
Comprehensive aural rehabilitation services are available for individuals across the lifespan including complete follow-up services for infants referred from the newborn hearing screening program
A full range of amplification options are offered featuring the latest in technology.

- Fitting strategies for pediatric and adult populations
- Hearing aid verification, including real ear measurements
- Assistive listening device demonstration and dispensing

Community Screening Opportunities:
The Speech and Hearing Clinic provides numerous community screenings. Students and faculty go off-campus to various locations:
- DeKalb County Farm Bureau
- Pre-school screenings
- Rockford School of Medicine, Cleft Palate Clinic
- Wellness fairs
- Head Start
Hearing aid repairs are offered during standard hours that vary by semester. Before bringing in a hearing aid for repair, clients should call the clinic office
