Welcome to the School of Allied Health and Communicative Disorder’s website. We appreciate your interest in our school and encourage you to explore the site to discover the depth and breadth of our academic, clinical, and service programs. We are a diverse unit with programs in the areas of audiology, clinical laboratory sciences, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and rehabilitation services/counseling.
If you are looking for an undergraduate program, you’ll find that we offer a pre-professional program in clinical laboratory sciences as well as a professional program in this area. There is also a degree in health sciences which currently comprises the undergraduate portion of the professional physical therapy program. There is also a Bachelor of Science degree program in communicative disorders which offers two emphases, one in speech-language pathology/audiology and one in rehabilitation services. In addition, a minor is available in communicative disorders.
At the graduate study level, you’ll find master’s level programs in physical therapy, speech-language pathology and rehabilitation counseling and a doctoral program leading to the Au.D. in audiology. We also offer a professional continuing education certificate program for the practicing rehabilitation counselors in the rehabilitation of persons who are deaf-blind. All of the graduate degree programs and the undergraduate degree program in clinical laboratory sciences are fully accredited by their respective professional bodies and several of the programs are rated among the best in the country in the U.S. News and World Report.
Please take time to learn about our outstanding clinical and service programs as well. The NIU Speech-Language-Hearing Center provides speech, language, hearing and rehabilitation services to the university and surrounding communities while serving as a primary training site for our students.
There are many opportunities for students to become involved in supervised clinical experiences, faculty research, teaching, and student organizations and activities. Please explore this site and feel free to e-mail us with any questions. We will be happy to provide you with additional information or to arrange a visit and a tour of our facilities.
Thanks for stopping by!
Sincerely,
Sue E. Ouellette, Ph.D.
