Nutrition and Dietetics

Our nutrition and dietetics programs prepare you for roles helping people make healthful food and nutrition choices. We offer a B.S. in Nutrition, Dietetics and Wellness, and an M.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. Within the bachelor’s degree program, our accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) track prepares you to apply for dietetic internships programs to become a registered dietitian – clinical nutrition experts. It is also preparation for graduate study.

For those who do not pursue the DPD track, you may find rewarding careers in community agencies, schools, corporate wellness programs and fitness clubs.

Graduate study in nutrition and dietetics offers a stand-alone master’s degree and a combined M.S. degree and dietetic internship which is designed to prepare you to work as a registered dietitian and nutritionist. This degree also advances nutrition knowledge and research skills for those who already are registered dietitians. We also offer a Certificate of Graduate Study in Eating Disorders and Obesity and a Certificate of Graduate Study in Sports Nutrition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I become a registered dietitian (RD) just by completing my bachelor’s degree?

Additional education and testing is required to become an RD. You need to complete the following three steps:

  1. A Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) concentration with a GPA higher than 3.0
  2. A Dietetics Internship, usually involving another nine months of study
    • Admission to internships is competitive, so it is important to maintain a high GPA while pursuing your bachelor’s degree
    • For additional information visit the Dietetic Internship page
  3. Successfully pass the Registration Examination for dietitians
What is the difference between a dietetic internship and an internship?

A dietetic internship is the internship that is accredited by ACEND and is the necessary component to earning your registered dietitian credentials. One is eligible for this internship after successfully completing DPD requirements. DPD students are encouraged to maintain a high GPA throughout their B.S. degree program.

An internship is either a paid or unpaid job experience for which you may or may not receive academic credit. Standard internships are separate and not applied toward the Dietetic Internship Program.
